A peaceful society

One of my favorite books is Erewhon. Where is utopia? Erewhon. Nowhere.
I don't think it's possible to have complete peace at the societal level. But there are more peaceful and less peaceful societies. What helps a society become peaceful?
Respect is a great place to start. Being kind to others because you respect their feelings and their experiences. Mutual respect builds bridges and connections and creates a sense of calm. This includes respect for those who are very different. It's not just a matter of political correctness. Respect demands caring and courtesy.
Each of us has private concerns, things to do, and a certain degree of stress. But if we consider others, who also have tasks and stress, this is a good start.
Respect obliterates the rage so prevalent in these days. And gives us peace.

Nice post. I agree that respect is a great place to start. Plus I don’t believe it good to just “act” peaceful. Rather, I believe its to everyone’s advantage to be peaceful sinerely from within. That would suggest not holding grudes, not being greedy, not being selfish, not being uncaring for all humanity. Alienation is the greatest obstacle to peace.
I believe it is possible to have complete peace. But all must “want peace” and “live peacefully according to the fabric of life”.
I absolutely agree.
