What kind of art would you place in your community?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 13, 2007:

That's a difficult question because nearly everything here in Lexington, Kentucky centers around horses. I just moved here in June and already I've seen more horse statues than I could count. Some are standard and others are more creative, but they're all horses.

On the other hand, this area of Kentucky has a rich history which goes beyond horse racing. From Daniel Boone to the Civil War--and I guess I would have to count "Man O War"--there is so much to see and learn about here. We have cultural diversity also, and a beautiful landscape.

I suppose I would go for a mural. I'm from Missouri and I've always liked the Thomas Hart Benton mural in Jefferson City. Kentucky needs something like that to honor the history and culture we have here.

I like murals too.We have some splendid examples here. Some of which were done by the local graffiti artists, the city decided to let them express themselves on specific walls, and it was quite a success.I like horses though not sure about statues of them everywhere, there are quite a few live ones in Old Montreal.

I just moved to Lexington from Oregon about uuummm, 11 months ago…and the first thing I thought to myself was good golly they love their horses here! I would like to see more art here that isn't a landscape, truck parts or horses…but I'm an artist…so I guess I would…I have already been asked by several locals…do you paint horses? NO! :) I will if I want too but not just because I live in LEX. It is wonderful here though and I love the state so far. People are warm and friendly and the schools are great. We will be able to buy our own home here, which is why we left the west coast. Nice to find a local zaazster!
Much Love, Heather

Hi Heather! It's great to hear from a fellow Lexingtonian here at Zaadz–and another transplant at that. What is your book about? And can you tell me why everyone loves To Kill a Mockingbird? I didn't like it when I had to read it in 9th grade, and now that my son (my
9th grader) has read it I picked it up again at his urging. He loves it, and he's hard to please.
Anyway. . .everything you said about Lexington is why we're here too. When I realized we could buy a house, that was it.
