What is happiness?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for June 30, 2008:
Happiness is contentment. When someone reaches a goal, a plateau in life, he or she is hapyy.
My experience, though, shows that happiness is transitory. I once thought I'd be happy enou gh to write and publish a book. I've done that six times now but I'm not satisfied. I want to write a more popular book, a prize-winning book. I have high expectations for myself so I will probably never be completely happy with my efforts.
My kids make me happy, though--most of the time. And being married to my husband makes me happy too. I don't need different kids or a new husband. They've brought contentment into my life.
The pursuit of happiness is a basic right. But when it comes to the attainment of happiness, you're on your own.
